Deep River Friends Meeting was founded in 1754. For much of its life it served a rural community of people who knew each other well and were often inter-related. Until the late 1800's it operated as an un-programmed meeting (activity as led by the Spirit). The move to a paid ministry in the 20th Century led to services similar to most Protestant churches with planned hymns, readings and sermon to supplement the more traditional quiet time.

Recent rapid growth in the open areas between southwestern Greensboro and northeastern High Point has caused major change. Today, Deep River is situated at one of Guilford County's busiest intersections: Wendover and Eastchester Avenues. Where farms once flourished, now shopping malls and office parks abound. Housing developments have brought many new people to the area.

In this high energy environment, Deep River seeks to preserve that of the past which grounds its purpose and direction while providing relevant service to a new community and world.
