At
Deep River Friends, we feel that a decision to become a member is a significant
decision in one's spiritual journey. It involves not only a commitment of
one's heart but also a commitment of one's time, talents and resources towards
the mission and ministry of the meeting. The following will help
you understand our membership process as you consider this important step in
your spiritual journey. Deep River Friends Membership Application Process 1)
Prior to considering membership, individuals and families are encouraged to read
through our Faith and Practice which is also our Book of
Discipline. This will give a good overview of the Quaker history, beliefs,
and governance. The meeting will provide you with a copy or you can CLICK
HERE to download a copy. Other
publications are also available through the office. 2) If you still feel
clear to apply for membership, a simple Application for Membership card can be
provided for you. This can be turned back into the Pastor or the present
Ministry and Counsel Clerk. Prior to applying for membership, the Pastor
will often arrange a convenient time to meet with you and discuss any further
questions you might have. 3) Once your Application Card has been turned
in, it will be presented to our Ministry and Counsel Committee which meets the
fourth Thursday of every month. Upon their recommendation, it will be
passed on to the Monthly Meeting for Business. 4) Once passed on
to the Monthly Meeting, it will be considered at our regular monthly business
meeting - typically the second Sunday afternoon of each month. 5) Once
approved at our Monthly Meeting for Business, you will be notified of the
meeting's decision. 6) A Sunday to offer you the Right Hand of
Fellowship will be arranged at your convenience. 7) After you have been
extended the Right hand of Fellowship, you are then considered an Active member
of Deep River Friends Meeting. Expectations of Membership
